Inspiration and Prejudices

I just read the scoopwhoop article speculating whether the upcoming Maneesh Sharma project FAN is inspired from Robert De Niro's The Fan. It is clearly a great speculation, except, it is highly hypocritical, and here's why.

SRK's FAN shares its title with the 1996 Hollywood film The Fan. The latter deals with a baseball team fan's obsession, and the former with a Bollywood star's. They have similar titles, and similar storylines.

Assuming that similar storylines imply being inspired or even plagiarism, I wonder why scoopwhoop never wrote articles about the following films:

The Big Short and The Inside Job
White House Down and Olympus Has Fallen
Chasing Liberty and First Daughter
No Strings Attached and Friends With Benefits
The Prestige and The Illusionist
Mirror Mirror and Snow White and The Huntsmen
Deep Impact and Armageddon
Saving Private Ryan and The Thin Red Line

Also, while Scoopwhoop were only "speculating," some people have already concluded (ironically, from the same scoopwhoop article) that FAN is an unofficial remake of The Fan, because the former is a Bollywood movie and Bollywood always copies. I only wonder why people from Indian cinema would care about delivering quality if every attempt of theirs is ridiculed and labeled as a copy.

Interestingly, there are about thirteen movies about the 2007 recession. I wonder if these people consider that inspiration, or its okay, because, oh it's Hollywood (which they don't even really know about. I wonder how many people can even name five De Niro movies.)

The point is, just because you have prejudices about an actor, don't pull down the entire project. AT LEAST WATCH IT FIRST. Also, just because "Fight Club" and "The Machinist" had similar basic themes, doesn't mean they were inspired from each other. The theme is similar; neither is the plot, nor the movie. Please understand the difference.

PS: De Niro's "The Fan" was adapted from a book with the same title.
